This course is for anyone who is qualified in First Aid (holds a valid, in date certificate in either Adult or Paediatric First Aid)
This course is designed to test and reinforce First Aid skills in between the 3 year requalification period.
Whilst there is no obligation for First Aiders to undertake annual refresher training, there is a growing body of evidence to suggest that where First Aid is under used, the 3 year requalification gap causes some skills to fade. It is possible in the future that this may become mandated but we advise that all First Aiders undertake some sort of annual refresher. It is our experience that after 3 years we have students who have forgotten large chunks of information, which is worrying when they are appointed First Aiders. It is up to the individual and employers to ensure ongoing competency.
In the event that there is an incident and/or investigation it will help employers demonstrate their due diligence in relation to staff training and First Aid.
The elements covered will depend on the course being refreshed (Adult or Paediatric) but the course is a fast paced 4 hours where candidates will mainly undertake practical exercises to test their skills and knowledge in the most important elements of First Aid. Any knowledge gaps identified will be filled and any important changes or updates will be passed on.
It is 4 hours face to face and is fast paced including practical scenarios.
There is no formal assessment candidates are continuously observed and in the event any additional input is required, the employer will be notified.
There is no certification for this course, however the employer will be notified as to who has been on the annual update course.
Did you know it's a legal requirement to provide First AId training for your employees? You should do this based on your first aid needs assessment. If you don't have a first aid needs assessment click HERE to fill in our online assessment form.
