This course is ideal for people who assist in a childcare setting alongside colleagues who hold the full 2 day certificate.
It is designed to supplement paediatric first aid provision and will not meet the Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Registration requirements on its own.
These requirements specify that at least one person who has a current full paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings.
This course will teach you to understand the role and responsibilities of the emergency paediatric first aider, have the ability to assess an emergency situation, and prioritise your actions.
The course will cover:
We also include recognition and treatment of head injuries as standard, as our experience tells us that all first aiders should be able to recognise and treat head injuries.
This course is 1 day (or 6 hours), face to face. The standard course times are 0900-1600 which includes a 30 minute lunch break and 2 x 15 minute refreshment breaks. If you request additional material to be covered then these times will need to be extended accordingly.
Assessment consists of continual observation in relation to the practical elements, along with a short question paper consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions.
After successful completion of the course a certificate will be awarded and this certificate is valid for three years. We recommend annual refresher training.
