Paediatric First Aid - Full Course

This course meets the Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements.

This two-day Paediatric First Aid course focuses on emergency situations that can happen when looking after young children and infants. It is for people working with young children and those working towards an early years educator qualification.

This course is suited to:

• people working in day nurseries
• people working in private nursery schools
• people working in pre-schools
• people working in schools with children in the early years foundation stage
• people working in before and after school clubs for children in the early years age group
• childminders
• carers of children at home.

This course will prepare you to deal with a whole range of medical and trauma emergencies involving children and babies including:

• Allergic reaction (including use of autoinjector)
• Asthma
• Bites and stings
• Bone, joint and muscle injuries
• Burns and scalds
• Child and baby resuscitation (CPR) (including the use of a defibrillator)
• Childhood conditions
• Choking baby
• Choking child
• Communication with children in an emergency situation
• Eye injuries
• Foreign objects
• Head injuries
• Heat and cold extremes
• Low blood sugar
• Managing an emergency
• Meningitis
• Minor and severe bleeding
• Poisons and what to do if someone has been poisoned
• Role of the first aider (including knowledge of health and safety regulations)
• Seizures
• Shock
• Spinal injuries
• Unresponsive baby
• Unresponsive child

This course is 2 days (or 12 hours) face to face

Assessment consists of continual observation in relation to the practical elements, along with a short question paper consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions. There are a number of practical scenarios over the 2 days to get you used to using your skills 

 After successful completion of the course, a certificate will be awarded and this certificate is valid for three years. We recommend annual refresher training.
